As a builder, I thought I had correctly planned for the ventilation on my new home built in 2005. With many vents installed into the foundation that actually exceeded what code required, I assumed the crawl space would be moisture free. Since my home is a ranch with a rather sprawling crawl space, the "normal" way of venting a crawl space proved to be inadequate. Within the first year I noticed we had a wet crawl space and evidence of mold. I contacted Atmox (referred from a client of ours) and had them assess the situation. After a thorough inspection of my crawl space, they designed a system to rectify the situation. I was very pleased with the reasonable cost and decided to proceed with the installtion. My wife and I had our ATMOX system installed a couple years ago. The house was originally a 1939 ranch that had been renovated and added onto by the previous owner. At the time of the ATMOX system installation we had what I would call a severe moisture problem with readings in the mid 20% and some signs of rotting wood. There was evidence of past mold and the insulation in the crawl space was actually dripping water. We removed and replaced all the insulation, installed a new vapor barrier and the ATMOX system. We saw almost immediate results and the damp musty smell of a crawl space literally disappeared. 2 years after the installation we have moisture readings as low as 8%. We are so glad that we found the ATMOX solution for our crawlspace. We noticed that areas of our crawlspace seemed to be "sweating" and that we had a very small amount of mold growing in one area of the crawlspace. We investigated many, many options. After we spent more time studying the sealed and/or conditioned crawlspaces, too much of it didn't seem to make sense. Properly ventilating a crawlspace with ATMOX seemed much more logical and much more affordable. The ATMOX system was a fraction of what the sealed crawlspace companies wanted to charge. After just a few months with the ATMOX system, we can see a real difference in how dry the crawlspace feels. The mold is all dormant and our wood moisture levels have really come down.
